This lesson will introduce students to The Last Daughter, the Waya Gilahna Cultural Framework, and Indigenous Culture. Through the 8-week unit, students will explore seven themes that are central to the story and learn to apply the Waya Gilahna Cultural Framework. The lesson will also help students establish a connection with the author, Brenda Matthews, analyse the book cover and synopsis, learn and create their own Cultural Tale, develop critical thinking and analytical skills and reflect on interpretations and responses to literature. By the end of the lesson, students will have a better understanding of the importance of Indigenous Culture and history and how it relates to the book.
