Trauma

The purpose of this lesson is for students to analyse and interpret the impact of trauma, particularly generational trauma, on both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Students will deepen their understanding of this concept by analysing Brenda’s experiences of trauma in the book and making connections to others and their own lives. The lesson will emphasise the importance of critical analysis and interpretation of a text, as students analyse specific parts of the book and create a short poem that reflects their understanding of trauma and its relevance. The lesson aims to promote empathy, critical thinking, and creativity in students, while also developing their understanding of the complexities of trauma and its ongoing effects.
